I wanted to share this website with you as resources for you career search:
This site can be very helpful in your career search. Assisting you in learning what it’s really like to work at the organizations you’re interested in. It can give you a behind the scenes look at the company based on the anonymous reviews provided by their employees.
*Keep what they say in perspective however.
People who go on sites like this could be the most disgruntled employees as opposed to the happiest. So you have to realize that you may be getting a one sided review. But finding themes in what they are saying CAN give you some insight into what it’s really like to work there. If people are saying the same thing over and over, there really could be some truth behind what is being said.

Ted Talks The Happiness Advantage
Posted by: | CommentsI know that when I am happier, I make better decisions and have a more positive attitude. It helps me see the potential in things that I wouldn’t have if I was frustrated, and I am willing to take more risks to achieve my goals.
Check out Ted Talks to help you in the work place
Posted by: | CommentsI highly recommend Ted Talks if you have never seen it before. I loved this video in particular, and wanted to share it with you. It’s about why we have too few women leaders, but it definitely applies to men as well. “Sit at the table” is my favorite piece of advice. You have to step up, speak up and engage in the conversation at work – stay involved. This is definitely worth watching, and I hope you enjoy:

Know someone entering the work force or starting their own business? The Original MBA – Succeed in business with Mom’s Best Advice, a book filled with time-tested strategies which lead to a new, modern wisdom, is available for pre-order here http://bit.ly/oCzUIv.
This book’s title says it’ll help you succeed in business, but “The Original MBA” is also a good road map for life success.
Taking lessons she learned as a child, Sandy Weaver Carman takes the reader on a journey, re-living the childhood moments when the lessons first sank in and fast-forwarding to the grown-up business situations where those same lessons paid off.
The stories are genuine, the wisdom is priceless and each section, or “room,” of the book wraps up with exercises, or “chores,” you can use to lock in the lessons for your own life success. This book is appropriate for those entering the work force, whether just out of school or in mid-life, and for those headed for corporate America or the adventures of entrepreneurship.
As one reader put it, “It’s homey and warm but clearly written by someone who knows what she’s doing.”

Hiring secrets exposed
Posted by: | CommentsI presented at the GCDA event on Friday and I met some great people. One of whom has a killer book I want to recommend. “Headhunter” Hiring Secrets: The Rules of the Hiring Game Have Changed . . . Forever! by Skip Freeman (an executive recruiter in Atlanta). I highly recommend it to find out how you can get your foot in the door for your next job.
One thing I discussed with Skip at this event was how the job stats you hear on the news can be skewed sometimes. Yes, you are hearing how high unemployment is, but that can vary dramatically by industry. For example, Skip said he has 35 open positions that haven’t been filled yet.
This is important to think about for those of you who are in college, or are starting college and have no idea what direction to go in, especially in a tough economy. Using informational interviews to learn more about prospective industries can be very helpful. Learn what employment rates are like for industries that interest you.
I hope you get a chance to check out his book. He has a kindle version too so you could start reading today!!
