Resources-Career: Achieving your goals – Learn to corral those ideas
Posted by: | CommentsHappy Monday!
Lately I’ve been working on strategically scheduling my time and planning out my goals. I was talking to my new friend Amber, who started Café Physique, a few weeks ago about this concept. We are both idea people; meaning we constantly have ideas for growing our business, new products etc. There are so many in my head at any given time that I can’t realistically achieve all of them within a year. And I wouldn’t want to, if I did I’d be a crazy lady. I’ve learned that I need to corral my ideas, decide which ones will help me achieve my goals (and which ones won’t), and be ok with putting off some of ideas until later.
One way I manage this idea flow is by using an Idea Folder on my computer where I keep all of my thoughts. I check this list out regularly and decide when it’s time to implement something based on my current goals. Amber called this a “chalkboard for your head.” It’s a place to put things that you want to do – personally or professionally – but you either don’t have time to do them now, or it really isn’t the right time to implement them because they aren’t aligned with your goals. I find that this simple technique works well for my clients who have so many career ideas running around in their head. Getting them down somewhere helps them think more clearly about each one. I hope this is helpful!

Resources-Career: New additional coaching focus
Posted by: | CommentsI have exciting news that I shared last week with subscribers of my newsletter.
I have expanded the focus of my coaching practice to include working with young professionals and recent college grads, to help them identify their ideal career path. I am passionate about working with this age group since I was in their shoes when I was 25.
This means that I will be posting specific articles for young professionals and recent college grads on this blog and I will have a special section in the Career Corner section of my newsletter for this age group.
Let me know what you think.
Also new: Become a Fan on my Facebook Page

Resources-Career: Visioning vs Goal Setting
Posted by: | CommentsHappy Monday!
I mentioned in my last ezine that
I recently re-created my Vision Board. It's hanging up in my office
where I can see it every day; it's fab. Having my Vision Board front
and center keeps me focused on my goals and priorities. I learned
an important distinction between visioning and goal-setting in a
teleclass a few weeks ago that I wanted to share with you.
Here's the difference…
Visioning:
Visioning is pure dreaming. It's allowing yourself to look at your life
from a big picture perspective, asking “What do I want to have in my
life in the future? Who do I want to be? What people do I want to have
around me?” This goes for anything – from tangible things you may want
like a a boat or a trip to Bali, to less tangible things like help with
your business or to serve on the board of a nonprofit you are
passionate about. If it's something you want and it gets you jazzed, it
should be part of your vision. Visioning is playful and inspiring.
To create your vision:
-
Give yourself lots of mental space to picture what you want in your life
-
Think out of the box
-
Have fun with it. Imagine it as vividly as you possibly can, down to how it will feel to have these things.
Two important points - visions don't have time frames and you don't worry about how you are going to achieve them.
You just picture them, period. Visioning is a helpful tool because it
not only provides clarity about what you want, but it also gets you “in
the flow” – excited and motivated to work towards these things.
Goal setting:
Setting goals is the down to earth, nuts and bolts planning. It's
identifying what you want to achieve this week, this month or this
year. Goals have a specific time frame, action steps to achieving them,
and they include the "how" – how you are going to achieve them.
To
develop your goals, you need to make sure they are specific,
measurable, tangible, realistic and a challenge for you. They must have
a deadline.
While you can use your
Vision Board to identify what your goals are, visioning is nothing
without action. You have to take action, in the form of setting goals,
to achieve what is on your Vision Board.
To achieve your goals I suggest using both visioning and goal setting together. If you need help with goal setting, contact me for a complimentary consultation.

Resources-Career – Defining your life purpose
Posted by: | CommentsHappy Monday!
My coaching clients often come to me for help in defining their life purpose. Whether you are just starting out in a field (recent college grad) or someone in career transition, you may find that you can’t move forward in your goals because it is unclear about what you really want. I find that for soon-to-be college graduates this is especially a difficult time because graduation is looming and some students are unclear on what to do next.
What do YOU really want?
Although your primary focus may be on finding the right career, it’s important to become clear on all dimensions of your life. In fact, without a Personal Mission Statement for your life, it’s next to impossible to move from Point A to Point B. This is especially true for recent college grads.
Many of my clients have discovered that once they find their direction and define their life purpose, choosing the right career becomes a much easier task. They know more about themselves and can actively undertake the steps to finding a career they love.
Moving forward with personal and career goals can be tough when what you really want isn’t crystal clear. If you need help defining or fine tuning your life and career direction, then my Identifying Your Purpose Coaching Group is the perfect place to start.
Learn to live your life with greater passion and purpose, narrow your career interests to the one that truly excites you, and begin moving in the right direction – right now! The next group kicks off on May 7.

1) Law of Attraction Clarity of Contrast Worksheet for Career Seekers
New and improved: I just updated my FREE contrast worksheet for Career Seekers to make it better and more useful for you career seekers out there looking for your ideal job.
As a career coach, I’ve discovered that when I ask people what they want in an ideal job or career, they can’t tell me. But if I ask them what they don’t want, or what they didn’t like in previous jobs, they can give me a long list of complaints or things they’d want to change! If this is the case for you, it may feel like you are checking things off of a list and identifying what you don’t want, instead of moving forward by clarifying what you do want. This can be frustrating I know. But… it’s actually a start. Determining what you don’t want in your dream career can be the first step towards clarifying what you want.
